Vahan Callan is Managing Director and Head of Aviation Finance at DelMorgan & Co.
Mr Callan has more than 16 years of experience in aviation and other structured and corporate finance. Mr. Callan launched DelMorgan’s Aviation Finance practice in 2016 and oversees business development and client management. At DelMorgan, Mr. Callan provides transaction structuring advice and assistance, and he has successfully completed equity capital raises for a number of clients, including (in 2019 2020):
• Icelease EHF, a Reykjavik based aircraft lessor and arranger and manager of bespoke aircraft lease investments
• Halcyon Aviation Capital, a Miami based arranger and manager of bespoke aviation investments with a particular focus on engines
Prior to joining DelMorgan, Mr. Callan was Director of Credit for AerCap (previously ILFC), the largest publicly listed aircraft leasing company in the world. At AerCap/ILFC, Mr. Callan oversaw customer credit risk assessment, due diligence, transaction structuring and receivables management for a portfolio of more than 1,300 aircraft leased to more than 200 airlines in all regions. Mr. Callan filled an integral role in developing ILFC/AerCap’s proprietary customer credit assessment methodology.
From 2004 2013, Mr. Callan worked for the Export Import Bank of the United States (Ex Im Bank), specializing in asset backed aircraft and transportation finance. At Ex Im Bank, Mr. Callan originated more than $3.5 billion in aircraft (commercial, business jets and turbo props) and locomotive financings while serving as a loan officer from 2010 2013. Also at Ex Im Bank, while serving as Portfolio Manager from 2007 10, Mr. Callan managed as many as 25 borrower relationships and up to $20 billion in aircraft and locomotive loan guarantee exposure.
Mr. Callan graduated with a B.B.A. in Economics from Western Michigan University in 2003, which included a semester of study at Maastricht University in The Netherlands. Mr. Callan received a graduate level certificate in the Economics of Emerging Markets from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC in 2006.
